Writing an eBook
Have you ever thought about writing a book but always felt there were too many hurdles to get over in order to get it published? An eBook is a great way to get your book published, quickly and inexpensively.
If you’ve got a subject that you feel you own, writing an eBook is a great way to capitalize on your knowledge. Don’t think you know enough about a particular subject to write an eBook? Think again. The more you examine your life and experiences, chances are you will find that you know quite a bit about a number of subjects. Have you ever started a group? It could be an investing, networking or book group. Maybe you’re a great gourmet cook with some original recipes or a mom who has years of experience homeschooling your children. I’ve never met a mom who wasn’t something of an authority on at least one subject.
Okay, so you’ve got something to write about. This is a great first step. Now there are two key components you must look at to determine if writing an eBook is something you should pursue.
First, do you have a solid grasp on a topic that people are willing to pay to read about? You may be an expert on growing a rare tropical plant, but if there is not a large enough audience looking for this information, your sales are going to be disappointing. To see what the current trends are, go to Googletrends to see what subjects are a match to your area of interest and knowledge. Don’t make this harder for yourself than it has to be, pick a topic that people are searching for information on.
The second key component is marketing. You can write an amazing eBook, but without aggressive and decent marketing nobody is going to find you. It is important to be realistic about this next phase. Marketing any product on the internet takes a lot of hard work and persistence. Which is not to say that you cannot do this, you can, you simply need to be prepared to put the time in.
If you’re a decent writer, you’ve got somewhat of an edge. If not, don’t worry there are plenty of resources out there to help you get your ideas organized and down on paper. One of the best eBook resources that I have found on the internet is “How to Create Your Own Information eBooks” by Monika Mundell.
